During the time of Hazrat Umar (Ra) Caliphate, a war was going on in a land known as "Farus", now a part of Iran. Hazrat Umar (Ra)asked Hazrat Jurair (Ra) to take his tribe with him and fight. Whatever the Muslims win, one-fourth of it will be awarded to him.

Off Hazrat Jurair (Ra) went fighting and the Muslims collected a lot of things in the war. Now Hazrat Jurair (Ra) went to Hazrat Saad Bin Abi Waqqas (Ra) and demanded his one-fourth share. Hazrat Saad (Ra)  wrote a letter to Hazrat Umar (Ra) informing him about Hazrat Jurair 's (Ra) demand. In reply Hazrat Umar (Ra) wrote that Jurair is Stating the truth and he had offered him the deal. However, tell him that if he fought for money then he can be paid for it as agreed but if he fought the war for Allah (SWT) and His beloved (SM) then he should be considered a common Muslim and should be paid accordingly.

When Hazrat Saad  (Ra)  received the letter he informed Hazrat Jurair  (Ra) about its contents, Hazrat Jurair  (Ra)  replied that Amir-ul-Momeenin  (Ra) is correct; 1 do nor need the one-fourth share. I am a common Muslim and I would like to remain as such.
